Pariah 19:27
Pariah, exiled, exiled, reviled, banished, suppressed, pariah, detested, hated, chastised, berated, pariah. Derelict under heavy hand, spurned within beguilement. Drenched in your misinformation, misguide impressionate minds. Stepping stoned towards minor success, witness vanity annihilate you. Confront the beast within. Naked without weapons, we stand up to you. Take and take filled with hate. Fight and fight to fix mistake. Reach and claw to tear away. Gather the truth for self preservation. Threats of violence will no longer detour us. We welcomed the thought of giving up, but the will to quit will end up in damnation. To find the truth you have to lose, to grow from loss we have to choose. Excepting you as damaged youth, forgiving you is path to truth. Gathered the truth for self preservation. The threat of violence will no longer detour us. We welcome the thought of giving up, but the will to quit will end up in damnation. Forgive but not forget. Truth, it comes to those who seek, you choose to hide behind the weak, a mind that is destined to be blind. A misstep that’s likely to repeat, with eyes that really see. A gift that the spirits handed me. I see the self hatred seed, the same seed I saw in me. Now we see, the actions that you made, we out of the fear of rejection. A cycle of abuse that you went through. Forgive you, but not for you, for us so we can heal from you. The damage that you have caused, will be the burden that you live with.

Triumph 22:19
Black god, golden maw. Unleash your power, so we overcome. Hatred in their hearts, violence in their walk. Black god, rise with furious love. Give us power, fill our cups. War has come to our houses, guided by white greed bodies. Rise up to bring their rule down, rise up to crush their will down. Rise up to take our freedom. Rise up their reign ends now. Triumph, deny them. A failing system, a starving people. Immigrants, trapped in camps now, a virus destroying lives now. Rise up to abolish this system. Rise up to bring those demons down. Rise out with strength in hearts now. Rise up revolution in our souls. Triumph, destroy them. Smash white supremacy, use hate for strength. Don’t give in again, time has come fight. You have what it takes, don’t give in, fight. You don’t think you can win, don’t give up fight. Lift yourself up from within, don’t give in fight. Remove your neck from their boot, stand up fight. Rise up.

III 17:21
(Boon) my spirits(guide) my spirits(move) my spirits protect from oblivion. (Truth) my parents(tried) my parents(proved) my parents tried the best they could. (Tomb) inside i(froze) inside i(died) inside I hated the shape I’ve become. (Cocoon) now I must(heal) now I must(grown) now I must forgive for damage done. (Move) no more(hate) no more(lies) no more excuses for giving up. (Abuse) my body(failed) my body(broke) my body was no strong enough. (Drugs) wrapped up in(pain) wrapped up in(guilt) wrapped up a needle inside my arm. (Death) all that i(loved) all that I(tried) all the lives I left behind. (Choice) now I have(grown) now I have(soul) now I can see the change I have made. (Form) wisdom it(blooms) wisdom it(holds) wisdom is what I gained from death. (Love) now I can(see) now I can(give) now I can heal from giving back. (Freedom) freedom from(you) freedom from(me) freedom from the pain and the guilt. My heart was cold, from the pain that I hold. My soul was black from demons inside. Fear behind walls, self contained hate. Not worthy of love, not worthy of fate. Remove it from me, all the lies that I see. I am no man, I am no he. It’s the way that I feel, it is so real. Gender is lies, the spirits divides. Am I a man or am I a soul? Bound to a lie, bound to control. Chest full of walls, from the damage it caused. I want to love, but the feeling is dulled. Free me, of this shell that I hold. I want to be warm, but inside I’m cold. The sun speaks within, through its four eyes I see. Four dimensions of glee resonates with me. A crown of flame, sits above the mind. A channeled streamed I am meant to express. The seeker in me, would not let me rest. A will to change, to be my best. The healer in me, allowed me to see. The walls in my chest was put there by me. No more hiding in fear, salvation is near. Open my chest, shed a tear. Birth and rebirth, I am rid of this curse. A fire within, with golden skin. Spirits they nod, my body applauds. The hate subsides, my seas are calm. A fragile being, tossed to a hell, beaten and hazed into a callused shell. I had to let go, I was destroying myself. When the drugs are gone, I still failed myself. My soul burns bright, a beacon in night. Choose not my scorn, sator my form. Boundless within malkuth. The truth lies within balance. One that destroys must plant a seed. Within me is instinct, guided by the spirits genius. Withholding nothing. The seer watches. Reality is what we deem so. Energy is abundant. I haven’t lost anything, that I cannot gain back. I haven’t forgotten the path that I was destined to walk. I haven’t lost the respect that I had gained from the pain. The honest truth is the fact, I would of died long ago. Without the help of the souls behind each lesson of life. Is a soul guiding light flowing from within. Flawless feeling from chest, vibration from my gut. Endless love from abound, granting me freedom to live. Sobriety of the mind, granting secrets to life. When my mortality fades, I will be greeted in kind. Fearlessness in my heart, toward the path of death. I will be greeted by those who hold the jewels in their eyes. They come for me inside my dream. Demon born with me, so I can see. They call, they’re calling me. The pain I see is apart of me. The rest of me is incomplete. Until I learn to see my enemy. The flaws that were apart of me melt away with the sea. My soul burns bright, a beacon in night, choose not my scorn, sator my form.

Love 33:24
I call to the power of the thunder being. I call to the power of the earth. I call to the power to the north and south. I call to the power to the east and west. Love. Lands of gold, fill our hearts with ease and rest. Your eyes glow, as they stare into my soul. Love. Come, the time has come. I saw you and me in the circle. Our tears fall, as we’re surrounded by our people. I know within my heart this day will come. Love. Encircle thee earth with our love. Woke into a false reality filled with lies. Crippled by the pain, two weeks I suffered alone. I knew I had to leave once I saw you again. My chest ripped open, when I saw you with him. A dream lost in the fog, again a hate replaced love within. Separate from this loss, cut the chords of our bonds. Clarity through solitude the spirits guide me to truth. I could leave them all behind, but I couldn’t let go of you. I knew I had to leave once I saw you again. My chest ripped open once I saw you with him. A dream lost in the fog again, a hate replaced love within. Will you miss me when I’m gone?

about

"Pariah" is the band’s third album and most ambitious effort to date. A double album comprising 4 songs and a hefty 91 minutes, the album was recorded over the span of 23 months at Richmond’s Etching Tin Studios with co-producer and engineer Richard Schellenberg. Recording started at the beginning of the pandemic so the band decided to focus more on production and songwriting rather than trying to capture their blistering live presence in the studio. “Pariah” mixes the brutality of the Swans early era with the symphonic and orchestral leanings of Godspeed You Black Emperor. In addition to their trademark wall of sound, the band utilizes new tools in their arsenal employing string sections on two songs, acoustic guitars, sound collages and fugue type vocals to augment their noise rock, metal and world music leanings.
Among The Rocks And Roots have been a mainstay of the Richmond, VA. noise, metal and rock scenes for 8 years now. Members Abdul Hakim Bilal and Samuel Goff have been exploring new ways to push the limits of heavy music. The foundation for the band’s formation was the aspect of the duo’s struggles with addiction and ensuing sobriety. The band explored these themes on two albums, 2015’s Samudra Garba Pathe and 2018’s critically acclaimed Raga released on PTP on double vinyl. The band’s sound focuses on volume and intensity and have built a following based on their hectic, passionate live performances. The band incorporates elements of heavy music like metal and noise and infuses with that an emphasis on polyrhythmic drumming to create a fractured, heavy world music. Colin Joyce of Vice described the band’s sound as “...a thoughtful approach to heavy music structures, embracing percussive polyrhythms and ecstatic dynamics, in addition to the running-into-a-brick-wall blasts of their more chaotic moments.”
