Discepants came to life in the middle of the pandemic when 2 person bands seemed a lot more safe to record than a full band or ensemble. Principal members Samuel Goff and Richard Schellenberg started a songwriting workshop of sorts presenting each other with varying ideas from different genres as a challenge to create music they loved but had never gotten a chance to record before in their various musical projects. This type of songwriting produced divergent genres ranging from trip hop to doom metal to politically tinged proto metal to Brian Eno inspired trippy ambient soundscapes, the duo also explored lyrical content they were not able to explore in other projects they had been involved with. Content including sex, politics, the absurdity of evangelical Christianity, sobriety and the military industrial complex were explored by the duo. The pair enlisted the vocals of Canadian singer Vila to flesh out the vocals on 4 of the songs, with Goff providing vocals on two numbers. In order to make this a true world wide project in addition to Vila, Brazilian multi media artist Virginia Di Lauro created all of the artwork for the release and even directed 2 videos for the tracks “Midnight Sinner” and “Night Terror.” Also Argentinian artist and designer Carola Nebbia designed the layout.
