Transmissions is the first solo album by percussionist, writer, composer and improvisor Samuel Goff. Based in Richmond, VA. he comprises half of the distressed noise rock combo Among The Rocks And Roots and is a founding member of the avant improv collective RAIC. Transmissions is a multi genre album touching on musique concrete, avant garde, film music, isolationist minimalism, noise, drone soundscapes, polyrhythmic percussion, world music and industrial. The album over a year in the making was recorded at Etching Tin Studios and the University of Richmond in Richmond, VA with co-producer and engineer Richard Schellenberg. The album also draws heavily on field recordings and samples recorded during brief stays in Santa Cruz and Cochabamba, Bolivia. The album was mastered by Raffaele Pezzella aka Sonologyst in Italy.
The songs on Transmissions are all very personal concept songs that attempt to take the listener on a journey and tell a story without lyrics but with sound. Journeys are taken through the coal mines of Kentucky in the 1950’s, the isolation of deep space, Bolivia, turn of the 20th century Industrial Revolution and the horror of Columbian Catholic exorcism practices and ritualistic possession ceremonies. The album is the debut release of new imprint Cacophonous Revival Recordings who is releasing this in conjunction with Pennsylvania’s experimental label Orb Tapes.

This album is dedicated to the memory of Freddie Lynn Goff (1945-2018).
"The reality is that this endlessly transforming journey is marked by its integrity, its coherence, and a clear sense of narrative. Goff’s radio scans the channels, searching not so much for a single tune but for a meaning and sense to the whole: chaos, diversity, exuberance, simple sentiment, crushing weight and moments of clear spirituality."
-Dave Foxall, A Jazz Noise
"Transmissions bears out the contrast between noise and rhythm and local sounds/music as sound art in infinitely intriguing ways. Goff transcends genre with ease, swirling everything together until each element fits perfectly in its own place, no matter how much it contrasts with something else."
-Ryan Masteller, Cassette Gods
”While 'Transmissions’ seven tracks happily transgress boundaries of genre and programmatic content, they make for a coherent whole. What holds them all together is Goff’s own sophisticated sensibilities as a composer crafting finished works out of multiple moving parts.”
-Daniel Barbiero, Avant Music News
"Goff proves himself an adept collagist with an ear for sonics that jar beautifully against one another, resulting in a deep, transportative pool of sound that festers with necrotic intransigence...."
"...a fully committed manifestation of hauntology..."
-Joseph Stannard, The Wire, February 2020 issue.
"In a non-conformed, original, heterodox and disruptive way, Goff establishes himself as a creator with a rich and complex creative universe, presenting in Transmissions a deeply personal record, but with a fascinating and eclectic sound aesthetic."
-Joao Morado, Beats For Peeps
